International Women's Day 2022: Q&A with Christinna Kuan (Ms Kuan) on #HerNameHerStory

International Women's Day ("IWD") is celebrated annually on 8th March to commemorate the achievements of women around the world. It offers an opportunity to call for change and spread the message of female empowerment and gender equality.

In conjunction with the celebration, our campaign #HerNameHerStory is born to bring a message to our society that Women around us are strong and fearless. We are capable of offering the same as men and we deserve equal opportunities and enjoyment. We believe that every woman has a story to share about themselves.

We are excited and thrilled to announce that we have invited a few inspiring women across different industries to share with us their journey on becoming who they are today.

We had the opportunity to speak to one of our personal favourite influencers - Christinna Kuan, also known as Ms Kuan.

Q1. Can you share with our followers a brief introduction of yourself?

Hi everybody! I’m Mskuan (Christinna Kuan). I am a social media influencer who mainly shares about fashion and lifestyle. I am also the business owner of UFCO and Christinna.K.

Q2. Young, successful and free. This is the life many of us dream, but do very little to achieve. It is no secret that you have got it all. How does it feel to be successful at such a young age? What is the biggest factor that has helped you arrive at where you are today?

It feels surreal sometimes. I would say that the biggest factor that helped me is determination. At first, people might judge what you do because being an influencer is not a career at the time. So you need to be very sure of what you want to achieve and not be swayed by others.

3. Have you faced any barriers in your career? If so, how did you overcome them?

For the barriers, I would say that this career is a little unpredictable sometimes. There are no clear guidelines or a guidebook that you can refer to. You never know what’s coming next, all you can do is just keep moving forward. I overcome the fear of the unknown by keeping a positive mindset and doing my best in every campaign.

4. What are some of the stigmas attached to social media influencers that you wish to address?

I think the stigma attached to social media influencers is that we only recommend certain products just because it’s sponsored. As a matter of fact, most of the brands that we work with are already products that we are using or already love before engaging with the brands. Being sponsored doesn’t mean our opinion is not genuine, it just means the brand trusts us with our platform and we get to work with some of our favourite brands by creating meaningful content. It’s a win-win situation.

Q5. Do you think influencers have a social responsibility?

Yes, I think there’s a social responsibility for influencers, especially when we are doing campaigns for brands. We need to use the products personally to make sure that it is really effective before introducing them to the audience because we have the capability to influence people to buy and people trust us with the reviews.

Q6. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?

Although we are all not sure of the future, but if we only live once, then we need to follow our dreams and go for what we truly desire.

Q7. What are the tips/advice you can provide to women who are thinking about being a content creator or starting their own business?

Don’t rush through things because even though we are in our 20’s, we need to build our own business and dream slowly. Sometimes when we rush through things, the outcome might not be long-lasting, so it’s better to take things one step at a time.
